FIRE SHEILD FIRE RATED DOORS

Fire Doors
A Fire Door is a type of door or movable barrier used as part of a passive fire protection system within buildings to prevent the spread of fire or smoke between separate sections. It is usually the only means. Fire Doors maybe made of a combination of materials such as:

  • Timber
  • Steel
  • Gypsum
  • Calcium Silicate boards
  • Glass Sections

Apart from the door leaf (the swinging panel of the door) there is the door frame which also has to meet fire rated regulations, intumescent strips, smoke seals, door hardware and the structure that holds the fire door assembly in place. Together, these components form an assembly, typically called a door set which holds a rating, in hours, specifying the amount of time it is able to resist a fire at a given temperature.

CORE
The core of the fire door is a rigid, high density material which is used for high temperature applications. This core is
made up of non asbestos Calcium Silicate insulation board. This material is light weight with low thermal conductivity,
high temperature and chemical resistance. It is a white free-flowing powder derived from limestone and diatomaceous earth, calcium silicate has no known adverse effects to health. It is used in roads, insulation, bricks, roof tiles, table salt and occurs in cement

High temperature calcium silicate core for fife rated door is a kind of inorganic and non-combustible material with stable! physical and chemical properties. The characteristics are high temperature resistance, low thermal conductivity,
good performance of soundproof and insulation, lightweight and high special strength.

It does not deform in normal temperature or moist air. Free from asbestos, is a kind of green building material, have not any irritant smoke when burning and high temperature. High temperature calcium silicate core is used for 30min, 60min
and 90min fire rate wooden fire door and metal fire door.

WINDOWS
Some fire doors are equipped with internal windows which also have a rating or have been incorporated at the time of the door test and be subject to the overall door's
Product certification. Fire resistive windows must remain intact under fire conditions
and hose stream impact resistance and can include:

  • Wire mesh glass
  • Liquid sodium silicate fills between two window panels
  • Ceramic glasses
  • Borosilicate glass

Wired glass typically with stands the fire, whereas the sodium silicate liquid also acts to insulate heat transfer due to endothermic action of this chemical.

Pressing
White wood 1 Red Miranti forms the skeleton of the fire door. Calcium Silicate boards which acts as the core of the fire resistance door is then attached to the white wood using an adhesive and then nailed. Gypsum board is then
attached to the other side of the door using an adhesive and onto this gypsum board we spread the adhesive and small wooden blocks are placed uniformly. A second layer of gypsum is then attached on top of the wooden blocks using
an adhesive. E.g.: Fevicol.

On to this second layer of gypsum, a calcium silicate board is glued using fevicol. Now we have an unfinished door with Calcium Silicate boards of the 2 opposite sides.

This unfinished door is then placed in the pressing machine and then heat pressed for a minimum time period of 90 min. On completion of the pressing procedure, white wood/red miranti is glued and nailed on to both sides of the fire door. The gaps on the 4 edges of the fire door is then tightly sealed using a fire resistant sealant. This is the
process in which a fire resistant door is heat pressed.
